The South Omaha Arts Institute (SOAI) is a 501 C3 dedicated to the cultural preservation, educational outreach, and augmentation of the Arts. Its mission is to provide artistic and culturally specific opportunities for both artists and members of the ethnically and linguistically, diverse population of the Omaha community. The SOAI is home to several professional touring groups: Mariachi Luna y Sol, Banda Mexicana, Grupo Zahoma, Impact Norteņo as well as the performing youth group Mariachi Las Estrellitas, and the dance ensemble, Xalapa Dance Troupe. The Outreach Community Arts educational program will provide on-site classes and in-school programming in such areas as Instrumental Music classes, Music Theory, Voice, Acting, Playwriting, Ballet Folklorico, Latin Dancing, Photography, Traditional Visual Arts, Contemporary Arts, Special Workshops, Guest Artists and much more! Private music lessons are also offered as programs expand into schools and community. The 30,000 sq ft building was originally built in 1910 and is located in the heart of South Omaha just west of the South Kennedy Freeway. Phase I of the facility has a reception hall, performance hall, parent waiting room, classroom and practice rooms. Phase II will add another class/multi-purpose room along with a dressing room and practice room. Phase III will incorporate an audio studio, photography studio, additional practice rooms, art room and multi-purpose rooms. |
